For the past 125 years, Montaraz has aged fine hams in Extremadura, a region in the southwest of Spain. Their 100% pure-breed, acorn-fed Ibérico pigs spend their lives grazing the beautiful dehesa pastureland.
Ibérico pigs chosen for the bellota designation enjoy sweet acorns, or ‘bellotas’, during the ‘montanera’ season under plentiful oak trees. Each pig is allowed plenty of space to forage.
This diet and exercise imbues the hams with rich, beneficial fats. Aged for over three years, they develop a complex, intense flavor.
Montaraz is part of the DOP Extremadura. From sourcing the pork to the final packaging, every step of the process is supervised by a regulatory board to maintain the highest quality.
Montaraz has cured fine Ibérico hams since 1890. Four generations of family expertise goes into the curing of each of their products.
